Feng
Shui has become wildly popular in the United States. As we realize
how important physical surroundings are to our personal health
and well being, we are breaking away from traditional decorating
solutions and seeking alternative approaches. Making a conscious
change to your space is a powerful and effective way to support
and enhance the changes you want in your life. When the environment
is supportive, the desired changes occur more naturally and with
greater grace and ease.
As a culture,
we tend to be more outwardly focused. We attempt to amass more
and more, look for answers outside ourselves while at the same
time asking isn't there more to life? There is a thirst for spirituality
and meaning in our lives. East has begun to meet West and we have
started to go inward, seeking to better understand and know our
highest Truth and good. Feng Shui enhances and supports this inward
movement we seek to know our hearts desires and have it reflected
in our larger body called home. We want to be at home with ourselves
and enjoy and cherish our homes reflection.
One of the
primary tenants of Feng Shui and Eastern thought is that everything
has energy or a vibration. From elementary science, we were taught
that everything is made up of protons, neutrons and electrons.
I once argued with my biology teacher when he tried to tell me
that a table was moving or vibrating. Well, Im finally ready to
admit he was right! Everything is made up of the same stuff, it
is all just arranged and formulated differently, each having its
own unique energy. And because we too have our own energy, the
same stuff, we absorb the energy of our environment. Better said,
we become one with our environment. For example, when you go into
an Italian restaurant and it is garlicky, at first you notice
the garlic, but fifteen minutes later, you no longer notice the
strong aroma. Or, you walk into an elegant and classy restaurant
and you somehow sense how inappropriate it would be to laugh outrageously
or to have a big sneeze. So, as we absorb the energy of our environment,
we become one with it and because like attracts like (yet another
universal law), we draw to ourselves that which reflects our environment.
